The metrology point
When using a scale or weighing terminal, you need to be sure that the results are accurate and precise. Der periodische Kontrolldienst der Kontrollstelle TopControl trägt dazu bei.
The TopControl inspection body is equipped with specific and appropriate equipment and its staff is highly trained, not least due to the experience gained so far and as a result of continuous and targeted training. We are already a point of reference for many customers in the food industry, and service can be carried out either at the customer’s site or in the laboratory.

Why have a calibration officially verified?
In many areas of application, government bodies regulate the requirements for a scale used in trade. All scales used in commerce must be regularly inspected according to the periodicity established in Ministerial Decree 93/2017 (3 years for non-automatic scales, 1 year for weighing selectors, 4 years for masses).
When should the PERIODIC REVIEW take place?
We remind you that the owner of the appliance is obliged to request a periodic inspection:
- within 5 working days before the end of the periodic review;
- within 10 working days after a repair in which the protective seals have been removed;
- within 10 working days after removal of the protective seals;
What is included in the service?
The periodic review shall include:
- a visual inspection to verify the presence and integrity of the CE marking or the national marking, the presence of the statutory marking plate and the seals;
- verification of the existence of the measurement book, in which the interventions carried out on the unit (periodic checks, modification of user data) are recorded, if already issued;
- the performance of metrological tests to verify operation and compliance with the maximum permissible errors; all tests are performed with equipment certified in accordance with the provisions of Ministerial Decree 93/2017;
- the preparation of the audit report;
- the application of the seals and the marking, green in the case of a positive result or red in the case of a negative result.
- Transmission of the result of the periodic inspection via a telematics system to the competent chamber of commerce. After verification of the data collected during the periodic inspection, the inspection certificate is issued.
*Body carrying out the periodic verification according to Article 42 of Law 34/2019 (until accreditation according to ISO 17020).
Forms
Scale calibration – Taratura ISO
- Accuracy class III non-automatic weighing instruments with a load capacity of up to 80,000 kg
- Accuracy class II non-automatic weighing instruments with a load capacity of up to 15 kg
- Automatic weighing instruments type labeller, checkweigher, batcher up to 22,500 kg
- Accuracy class F2 calibration weights up to 15 kg
- Accuracy class M1 calibration weights up to 50 kg as well as 1,000 kg and 2,000 kg
Calibration vs. official verification
In principle, every scale can be calibrated, but not every calibrated scale. The scales that can be calibrated bear the marking “M”. Calibrations are mandatory by law, calibrations are required by ISO.
